Hi, How are you?

I am a licensed psychiatrist and psychotherapist specializing in trauma care who has been studying and working in Japan since 2021. Over the past 5 years, I have accompanied more than 250 adults in understanding themselves and their lives more deeply, recovering from trauma, and navigating various psychological challenges through evidence-based psychotherapy. To date, I am providing individual and group psychotherapy in English or Indonesian, both online and in person at VISION Counseling Office in Niigata City, Japan.

I have received professional training and certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) through the Japan EMDR Association, Internal Family Systems (IFS) through the IFS Institute, and have also undertaken advanced training in Mindfulness-based Psychotherapy, Islamic Psychology, Jungian-oriented Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, and Process-Oriented Psychology.

My Approach to Psychotherapy

Every healing journey is unique. Some people find relief in just a few sessions, while others choose a longer journey depending on their needs and readiness. Rather than applying the same method to everyone, I tailor each psychotherapy process to the individual. I am also open to a multicultural approach. While I have particular familiarity with the socio-cultural contexts of Indonesia, Japan, and Asia more broadly, I have also worked with clients from Western, African, and Arab cultural backgrounds.

I believe healing is not about becoming stronger or forgetting the pain. It begins when we feel safe enough to understand ourselves with curiosity, self-compassion, and acceptance. My job is not to "fix" you, but to provide a safe, compassionate space where your own capacity to heal can emerge.

Having experienced psychotherapy myself (including more than 70 sessions) for learning and healing over 4 years, I understand both professionally and personally how meaningful this journey can be to create peaceful change in someone’s life.

I do not promise instant healing. Lasting change takes time, courage, and consistency. But when we stay with the process, the benefits extend far beyond symptom relief, they transform how we relate to ourselves, the people we love, and the lives we live.

Psychotherapy is not a luxury. It is one of the most meaningful investments you can make in the person who will live the rest of your life: yourself. 🌷

  • "After therapy, I realized that it’s 100% true that the anxiety and panic attacks I experienced were rooted in unresolved trauma. Whenever something triggers me, my mind brings my body back to the past. No matter how much I changed or avoided my external environment, or how new my surroundings were, I found myself repeating the same painful patterns.

I’m grateful to have people who have supported me throughout my mental health journey. Although healing hasn’t been easy, I’ve become more self-aware than ever before. I now recognize when different parts of myself are taking over without me realizing it, and instead of simply reacting, I find myself asking, “Why did I respond that way? What did I need in that moment?”

I’m also grateful to have found professional support with Dr. Eka through online therapy. From the very beginning, I felt comfortable with her. She is a warm, gentle, and deeply mindful psychiatrist."

    — Indonesian woman, age 23 (after 4 trauma therapy sessions)

  • “This therapy has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever given myself, as a person, a mother, a daughter, a relative, a friend, and perhaps one day, a partner again.

I realized that we truly need the courage to look deeply within ourselves to heal old wounds and release the burdens that keep us from moving forward. The memories themselves have not changed, but my understanding of them has. Painful memories have become meaningful memories filled with wisdom.

Today, I live each day with more gratitude, peace, and a more positive outlook, instead of being controlled by fear and anxiety rooted in my past. This has been one of the greatest gifts I have ever given myself.”

    — Indonesian woman, age 39 (after 9 EMDR trauma therapy sessions)

  • "I recently had a psychotherapy session with Dr. Ekachaeryanti Zain at VISION Counseling Office, and it was one of the most meaningful healing experiences I’ve ever had. Dr. Eka guided me with warmth, clarity, and genuine compassion, helping me connect with different parts of myself in a way I had never experienced before.

The space felt safe, calm, and professional. Throughout the session, I felt truly heard and understood. What I learned didn’t stay in the therapy room. It stayed with me, and I found myself continuing to practice and reflect on it in the days that followed.

I’m deeply grateful to have been accompanied by someone who listens without judgment, respects my pace, and gently walks alongside me throughout the healing process. Thank you, Dr. Eka and the VISION Counseling Office team, for helping me begin the journey back to myself."

  • "I highly recommend Dr. Eka! From the moment I arrived, the administrative staff made me feel warmly welcomed, and I have always felt comfortable during my sessions with Dr. Eka.

What I appreciate most is that her trauma-informed approach truly aligns with my values. During some of the most difficult periods of my life, including severe anxiety attacks and psychosomatic symptoms, Dr. Eka has been an incredible source of support. Every session leaves me feeling lighter, more grounded, and with a deeper understanding of myself.

Another thing I truly value is that, although VISION Counseling Office is based in Japan, I can receive therapy online in either English or Indonesian with Dr. Eka. I’m so grateful to have found this kind of support, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for compassionate and professional mental health care."

A Gentle Reminder 🌷

Healing is not about becoming someone different.
It is about reconnecting with the person you have always been beneath the pain, fear, and survival.

You only need to take the first step.
